Humas Fapsi — The Faculty of Psychology at Universitas Padjadjaran (Unpad) held the “Oath of Indonesian Harmony” as part of efforts to achieve peaceful elections in 2024. This event was part of the 62nd Anniversary Ceremony and the 2023 New Student Admission Ceremony of the Faculty of Psychology at Unpad, held at the Jatinangor Campus, Sumedang (September 2, 2023).
Under the theme “Faculty of Psychology for Social Harmony,” the event involved 168 new students, 25 representatives of active students, 3 international students, dozens of local lecturers, and 10 foreign lecturers who sent congratulatory messages via video, staff, alumni representatives, and partners from various sectors. As a symbol of harmony, new students wore traditional national attire, enjoyed various Indonesian cuisines, and sang regional songs presented by retired lecturers.
According to the Dean of the Faculty of Psychology at Unpad, Zahrotur Rusyda Hinduan, MOP, Ph.D., Psychologist, also known as Rosie Hinduan, this event is a form of the academic world’s tangible contribution to society and aims to educate the younger generation to actively participate in the country’s journey, celebrating diversity and respecting differences, which are our wealth.
“As an educational institution for Psychology, we also have a responsibility to maintain social harmony from the perspective of Psychology. This event aligns with the commitment of the Faculty of Psychology at Unpad to create a better future and generation.”
The Oath of Indonesian Harmony will begin with a Scientific Oration titled “Spiritualizing the Self: a Journey to the Deepest Understanding of Who We Are,” delivered by Dr. Retno Hanggarani Ninin, M.Psi., Psychologist, a leading figure in Social Psychology at Unpad. Dr. Ninin stated that based on her research, the younger generation has the power to create social harmony and anticipate various conflicts. Students, in this case, are expected to bring fresh air to Indonesian society, which will psychologically experience certain pressures during next year’s political events.
In addition to the Scientific Oration, new students will be introduced to one of the best alumni, Alim Sudio, a renowned screenwriter in the country, who is behind many box office films watched by young people. Alim will share his experiences on how Psychology can have a broad impact on society through his profession.
The Faculty of Psychology at Unpad also hopes that this event can inspire other educational institutions to do similar activities.
The Faculty of Psychology at Unpad will continue to commit to making a real impact on Indonesian and global society through the provision of the best psychology education, cutting-edge research, and tangible roles in the community.
“We believe that through collective efforts, we can all create Indonesian harmony and a better environment for future generations,” concluded the Dean of the Faculty of Psychology at Unpad.
The event was also enlivened with live music entertainment and performances of arts and talents from students, lecturers, educational staff, alumni, cleaning service personnel, security, and other guests. The event included the cutting of Tumpeng as a symbol of gratitude, a communal meal in the Faculty garden area, and concluded with a joint prayer led by student representatives from various religions.
