Psychology Laboratory

The Psychology Laboratory is a unit responsible for facilitating all student practicum activities, as well as research and the development of psychological experimental tools. The initial idea for the creation of the psychology laboratory has been in place since the establishment of the Faculty of Psychology at Universitas Padjadjaran in 1961, led by the founding dean of the Faculty of Psychology. Its purpose is to support the creation of students' final projects, commonly known as methodological theses.

Intro

Along with the changes in the curriculum over time, the Psychology Laboratory facilitates other lecture activities such as Biopsychology by providing human brain models, Psychodiagnostics and Counseling practicums, as well as practicums using experimental methods where the development of psychophysical experimental tools is carried out.

To address global challenges, since 2018, the Psychology Laboratory has begun developing "Computer-based experimental assessment" with a flagship program for the development of the Implicit Associative Test for measuring attitudes, sexual orientation, and happiness in collaboration with relevant parties such as the Army Psychology Service and several universities in Indonesia. In addition, the Psychology Laboratory of Universitas Padjadjaran maintains a psychology instrument database containing over 2000 measurement scales along with manuals for psychological constructs such as well-being, happiness, resilience, leadership, Political Skill Inventory, and more. This database is useful for assisting the academic community of the Faculty of Psychology at Universitas Padjadjaran in conducting research and completing final projects. The database is accessible only to registered members of the academic community.

The Psychology Laboratory is a unit responsible for facilitating all lecture activities such as psychodiagnostics and counseling practicums, experimental method practicums, and psychological research data collection. To support these activities, the Psychology Laboratory is equipped with various facilities and infrastructure, located on the 2nd and 3rd floors of the Mar’at Building.

To facilitate the learning process in enhancing students' professional skills, the Psychology Laboratory possesses experimental practicum tools for psychophysical research measurements, including:
Digital Speed Anticipation Reaction Tester dan Simple Reaction Time Tester

Experimental instruments aimed at measuring reaction time, which is the interval required for a reaction or response to occur after a stimulus is presented. These instruments can be used both with and without the presence of distractions.

Depth Perception Box

An instrument used to measure depth perception. Measurements taken with this instrument provide data on an individual's perception of the relative distance between themselves and the observed object, with or without the presence of distractions.

Steadiness Tester

An instrument used to measure visual-motor coordination. In visual-motor coordination experiments, this can be analogized to routine tasks faced by subjects in their work situations.

Poggendorf Illusion Tester

An experimental instrument designed to create the Pongendorf illusion, which is an effect observed in experiments involving the perception of Gestalt letters arranged according to the principle of the Factor of Closure (parts of letters that are cut off or disconnected). This instrument aims to examine the effects of the Pongendorf illusion on the perception of Gestalt letters.

Muller-Lyer Illusion Tester

An instrument used to measure visual perception of line length. The Müller-Lyer illusion is a phenomenon where two lines of the same length appear different in length due to the arrows at their ends. One line has inward-pointing arrows, while the other has outward-pointing arrows. This tester is commonly used in psychological research to understand how the human brain processes visual information and how perception can be influenced by visual context.

Wiggly Block

An instrument used to measure dexterity and fine motor skills, particularly in the context of games or educational activities. Typically, a Wiggly Block consists of blocks or parts that can move or wobble, requiring good motor control and hand-eye coordination to balance or manipulate. This instrument is often used in physical therapy, children's education, or psychological research to evaluate an individual's fine motor skills, concentration, and coordination abilities.

Visual Motor Coordination

An instrument used to measure an individual's ability to coordinate visual perception with motor movements. This instrument is commonly used in psychology, occupational therapy, and education to assess how well a person can integrate visual information with appropriate physical actions. Typically, tests or tasks in the Visual Motor Coordination instrument involve activities such as drawing, imitating movements, or manipulating objects that require alignment between what the eyes see and how the hands or body respond. This evaluation is crucial for identifying developmental issues, learning disabilities, or rehabilitation needs in individuals with injuries or neurological conditions.

Mirror Tracing Apparatus

An experimental instrument used in many experimental studies, designed to assess motor learning ability and visual coordination. The subject is asked to trace a pattern while looking at it in a mirror, preventing the subject from seeing the pattern directly.

Psychology Instrument Database Facilities

Psychology Instrument Database Facilities

This psychology instrument database contains over 2000 psychological instruments in the form of questionnaires and interview guides, created from student final projects. Each instrument is accompanied by a manual that includes the conceptual definition, theory, reliability, and evidence of the validity of the measurement tools. Access to these instruments is restricted to the academic community and requires prior registration via email to a.radiansyah@unpad.ac.id and lab.psikologi@unpad.ac.id

In addition to viewing the instruments available for research, this Instrument Database website can also be used by students to apply for a laboratory clearance letter by following the guidelines provided here: Surat Pengantar Bebas Lab
